I remember being in 7th grade, at a school dance, and some kid had this “Blues for Allah” alblum with him and I was just “turning on” to the Grateful Dead.. anyway, i saw my first show in Philadelphia, April 9th, 1985, and Jerry was wearing (a rare moment, from what i later understood) a RED t-shirt, and the crowd went “ape-shit!” when the first notes of “Althea” came on.. NEVER seen that response, EVER, from a concert (my 1st concert ever) Saw 20 shows w/Jerry, and learned much dead on guitar.

@Youngroe1 Of course it’s debatable, it is music. Art is subjective, this is my favorite moment from the Dead’s recorded output, I am probably not counting live shit cause there is a great live version of Dark Star from May of 72 that is fucking amazing.

wow… all of these years I’ve put off getting into the dead, now I find this song “by accident”, and it feels like I’ve arrived at some check-point. Making better time than I had thought.
I’d have never until this night appreciated a lyric like “I was blind all the time I was learning to see”
